Adab 3: Good Manners When Entering the Bathroom

Before You Go Inside

Sometimes we need to go to the bathroom. Islam teaches us good manners everywhere, even in the bathroom!

Before entering the bathroom, we say:

“Bismillah.”

And we say this dua:

اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الخبث والخبائث

Allahumma inni a‘udhu bika min al-khubthi wal-khaba’ith

This means:

“O Allah, protect me from bad and harmful things.”

Good Bathroom Manners

When going into the bathroom:

• Step in with your left foot
  • Do not talk inside
  • Be quiet and respectful

When leaving the bathroom:

• Step out with your right foot
  • Say:

غفرانك
Ghufranak

This means:
“I ask Allah to forgive me.”

 

A Little Story

Little Mohamed needed to go to the bathroom.

Before entering, he said:

“Bismillah.”

Then he made the dua his father taught him.

When he finished, he came out with his right foot and said:

“Ghufranak.”

His father said,
“MashaAllah! You remembered the Sunnah!”

Mohamed smiled happily.

Before entering the bathroom:

 1️ Say Bismillah
2️ Say the dua
3️ Step in with the left foot

When leaving:

1️ Step out with the right foot
2️ Say Ghufranak
